Andrew Holsinger, University of Illinois Extension Service, will discuss the benefits and installation of a rain garden for the homeowner. Rain gardens are becoming increasingly popular in low, boggy areas of the home landscape as a way to capture and soak up stormwater runoff.

An Evening at the Governor's Mansion

LLWGKS has supported Harry Lewis and the Governor's Mansion Gardens for several years through grants, mentoring, and this year, adding koi to the garden ponds. Harry will give the group a guided tour of the grounds and discuss this year's additions and plans for the future.

For most of us, fish are an integral part of our water gardens. Dan Chevalier will share his knowledge and experience regarding what to look for when purchasing fish, preparing the pond, the perils of over populating and more.

There will be plenty of time to ask questions and share experiences.

Refreshments will be provided. All are welcome.


The Dana-Thomas House Garden Walk

University of Illinois Extension, Dana-Thomas House, and The Elijah Iles House Foundation are co-sponsoring "Walk in the Gardens of Historic Homes." This walk featuring the Dana-Thomas House and Elijah Iles House will be held on Sunday, June 8, from 1 to 4 p.m.

U of I Extension Master Gardener volunteers will be stationed throughout the gardens to answer questions regarding plant selection and care. Volunteers at the Dana Thomas will point out the themes of the home and how Susan Lawrence Dana's and Frank Lloyd Wright's lives and careers relate to design and planting decisions.

Dana-Thomas House is located at 301 E. Lawrence Ave., Springfield, IL. The Elijah Iles House is located at 628 S. 7th St., Springfield, IL. Both home will also be open for tours. The event is free and open to the public.

LLWGKS played a vital role as a partner in refurbishing the reflecting pool in the Dana-Thomas House gardens.
